On 2 June, UNHCR, UNICEF and WHO warehouses in Niamey were damaged by a massive fire incident. Most stocks mainly intended for immediate use were detroyed.
As a result, the meningitis epidemics vaccines response as well as supplementary feeding programmes during the lean season will be severely affected.
UNHCR’s emergency response in Diffa as well as for the Malian refugees will equally be impacted. According to UNHCR, the loss is estimated at USD 400 000.
UNICEF Plumpynut urgently needed doses for the treatment of at least 10 000 children (USD 1.4 million) that has been burnt in the fire described above. DG ECHO is exploring possibilities to assist UNICEF for the urgent procurement of additional nutritional supplementary feeding.
